Calcified or degenerative aortic valvular disease is the most common disease in this age group (aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, or combination stenosis with regurgitation).

What are the symptoms and signs of heart valvular disease?

  • Shortness of breath.
  • Weakness or dizziness.
  • Chest discomfort or tightness.
  • Palpitation, or irregularity of heart beats.
  • Leg edema or swelling in lower extremities and abdomen.
  • Progressive weight gain.
  • Murmurs on auscultation, noise heard due to narrowing or leaking of the valve.
  • Thrill, the doctor feels it by palpating the chest wall.
  • Malar facies blue flush in cheeks and around the mouth in severe mitral stenosis.
  • Jerky pulse in aortic regurgitation.
