Complications after Gall bladder surgery
Gallbladder removal or cholecystectomy is a safe procedure but like other surgeries small risks of complications needs to be mentioned.
There are general complications such as bleeding, allergic reactions, wound infection, injuries to the neighbouring organs and structures such liver, intestine, vessels, and common bile duct causing leakage.
Another complication is the postcholecystectomy syndrome.
The symptoms are similar to gallbladder stones with abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion. This occurs in about 10-40% of patients who undergo cholecystectomy. This can be transient or even persistent.
