Stress Incontinence and Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a type of physical therapy that works by helping your body gain more awareness of its functions. It has been proven effective in case of urinary stress incontinence. It is used to help women control and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and usually helps both urinary and fecal incontinence.

Biofeedback therapy is a rehabilitation tool of pelvic floor muscles. It is done by using electric devices for people having difficulty.

It is recommended for cases of stress incontinence (urine leaking up on straining, coughing, or sneezing, laughing), urge incontinence (unable to hold urine when reaching the toilet) or mixed incontinence (people suffering from both).

Small sensors are placed close to the pelvic muscles. It is usually connected to the instrument to relay auditory or visual information about the status of pelvic floor muscle activity.
