What to do before the surgery?

  • Choose your doctor well. Discuss what you want and what you do not want.
  • If you are feeling anxious, request for another appointment for more discussion.
  • Stop taking aspirin, vitamin E, or herbal supplement one week before the surgery.
  • Stop smoking two weeks before the surgery.
  • Arrange transportation after the surgery.
  • Have a relative or friend help you for two days.
  • Do not lift heavy things for two weeks.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.

 

What are the recommendations after the surgery?

  • Elevate your head while sleeping to reduce swelling.
  • Have a low salt diet to reduce fluid retention.
  • Have a soft diet for 1-2 weeks.
  • Do not wear eyeglasses for one month.
  • Do not blow your nose strongly.
  • Take painkiller as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Take a nap if you are feeling sleepy. This will promote healing.
  • Swelling may take a long time (weeks or months).

 

RED FLAGS for Rhinoplasty!

  • Body image concerns that are difficult for others to see.
  • Unrealistic expectations of treatment outcomes.
  • Worrying about body image repeatedly throughout the day or for long periods.
  • Use of camouflaging and cover-ups strategies.
  • Constant requests for reassurance.
  • Mirror checking or avoidance of mirrors.
  • Avoidance of social situations.
  • General reduction in quality of life (e.g. no longer socialising).
  • Disruption in daily activity.
  • Patient presents with numerous photos (of self or of models/celebrities).
  • Patient presents with detailed ideas of how to improve appearance. Patient has other areas of body image concern.
  • Patient reports multiple previous ineffective consultations or treatments.
