How Laparascopic Hernia Repair surgery is performed

Written by Dr. Peter Lassu | 04-Sep-2023 10:41:12

If you notice swelling, a lump in your groin with or without pain or you have discomfort, or pain in the groin without obvious reason, you
probably got a hernia and I’m more than happy to help resolve your problem.

My current practice is a result of continuous development and experience for over 20 years where I had the opportunity to
practice all kinds of different techniques. (TAPP, TEP, heavyweight mesh, lightweight mesh, mesh fixation with metal tacker, fixation with absorbable tacker, fixation with glue, 3D mesh, self-gripping mesh)

Below is the Step-by-Step explanation of the laparoscopic TAPP inguinal hernia repair, the way I do it!

Step 1:
General anesthesia.
Abdominal entry and inspection. 1x10mm and 2x5mm trocars.
Local anesthetic to trocars.

Step 2:
Incision of peritoneum

Step 3:
Dissection of hernia

Step 4:
Placement of self-gripping mesh, covering the hernia defect and all other possible weak areas

Step 5:
Closure of peritoneum

End of operation.

The patient can ambulate immediately after surgery when they feel comfortable. They can also start Light sport activities after 2 weeks, progressing towards to full extent after 3-4 weeks post surgery.

It advised to see an experienced surgeon, who can make an accurate diagnosis and can offer the best available treatment

I have made this explanation simple to understand, but many of my patients may ask very detailed questions about the procedure, hence I thought to put it in writing in a separate blog below if they wish to learn more about this surgery in full detail.
